How to use the portal
View available map layers using the layers button (
) on the bottom left of the map.
Set your favourite starting domain using the bookmark button () at the top right of the map. Please note this sets a cookie. Once this favourite domain in set, the crosshair button () will allow you to jump back to that domain.
Drawing polygons and markers on portal to create warning maps
Polygons can be drawn on the portal using the draw button (). This brings up a set of buttons below with options to draw markers, polygons and text, with further buttons to edit, cut, remove or rotate layers.
Clicking on a marker or polygon will provide their coordinates.
Click the gear button () to enable drawing custom marker icons and colouring in polygons.
Markers can be standard, clouds, lightning and rain — a dialogue box will suggest these.
On completing a polygon, a dialogue box will appear, asking which colour (from green, yellow, orange and red only) to fill the polygon.
Once a map with the required polygons has been created, return to your standard domain (), switch off layers that you don't want, and copy the image to your desired application (e.g., PowerPoint, Word). How to create this image of the map depends on the web browser that you are using. In Firefox, simply click on the window and you will be prompted to select the part of the window that you want to copy (Control-Shift-S). Screenshots in Edge are also available with a right click (or Control-Shift-S). In Chrome, an extension is required.
